News Report - November 2002

Our new 2003 Brochure - even more venues to choose from!

2003 Brochure out now...
Well the major piece of news this month is the publication of the new Angling Lines brochure. Following on from our outstanding success with the 2002 brochure, this year's glossy A5 offering is bigger at 32 pages, and has even more fabulous venues to chose from for your carp fishing holiday. The new brochure has all the up to date info. on our superb range of carp lakes and river stretches in France and the St. Lawrence in Canada.

The carp season in France is effectively drawing to a close. Even if a few die-hards do venture out in the depths of Winter, most anglers call it a day after mid-November. Many of the venues are closed after the end of October most are winding down during October as catch rates start to get somewhat slower.  It is often a period were a few really big fellers crop up as the carp are approaching their heaviest weights of the season and feeding up prior to the Winter. It has been noticeable over the last few years just how many lake records tumble in the autumn.

Here's a round up of some of the venues:

Domaine de la Vallée (Horse Lake)
Talking of lake records the crown has once again fallen on this majestic venue in northern France. This time it went to a Dutch angler at a weight of 51lb 7oz at the end of the summer.  This challenging venue has been coveted by the Dutch for some years now and catches of big fish kept quiet.... but we have it on good authority that a number of big forties have been turning up on a regular basis throughout the summer.

Vallée - a truly beautiful lake

Angling Lines customer Mr. P Portas had a successful week on the water totaling 9 fish including 2 x forties , 1x 38 lb, 1x 37.5 lb.  The rest of his catch being carp between 14 and 18 lb (this years stock fish) - all mirrors. The bigger fish came to tiger nuts which avoided the poisson chat.

Feedback from a group of Dutch anglers on the venue in September tells of a haul of 22 carp, five of which went over the magical 40lb mark, the best going 48lb.

Pegs wise the hot spots definitely seem to be the islands, particularly the small island (peg 11), which has seem some spectacular catches this year. Other pegs that have been producing the goods are 6 & 7. The venue record fell from peg 7. More on Vallee .

Etang du Brionnais
The months of September and October are usually quiet times throughout much of France, which is a surprise as the weather is often as good as the summer months and the fishing can be exceptional.  Brionnais has been no exception and the handful of anglers present had some superb sport with numerous fish landed from mid-thirties up to mid-forties.  Bait boats are allowed on this lake and have proved to absolutely deadly when used correctly. Tiger nuts have also been very successful and have scored well.

UK carp fisher Chris Hodson on a September trip to the venue managed around forty fish during his week, crowned by a superb mirror of 40lb on the nose.  French regular on the venue, Roger Granvaud, topped off a successful weekend with carp of 35lb 2oz, 39lb 6oz and magnificent fish of 41lb 8oz.  Mr Raynald managed 7 carp in one night during his October session averaging 26lb. All the fish fell to tigers.  More on Brionnais

Etang du Brionnais

Domaine de la Ribière
News from this magnificent venue is of a new consignment of lovely carp to supplement the existing fish stocks. This batch of carp was of 11 fish including one double of 19lb 8oz, eight 20's from 22lb to 28lb 12oz and two thirties to 31lb 9oz.  Their stocking programme will continue over the winter and we will keep you informed. The venue, which must be among the best in France for accommodation and on-site facilities, will be improving the head of carp steadily which will surely make it one of the top venues in the country.  More on Ribiere.
