August 2003 Newsletter

Hello all,

Phew! temperatures really soared in France this month with some areas reaching 45 degrees!  This inevitably slowed the fishing down a bit at some venues but others managed to maintain good
catch levels.

Here's a round-up .....

Le Village

Tim Brown with a 36lb Village common
caught in August.

With 42 degrees at this northern venue, fishing 2nd to 9th was a harder week than most with only 6 x 30's gracing the banks and a catfish of 50lbs+

The following week 9th to 16th Aug saw temperatures again stay high between 37 & 42 degrees.  Many more carp were caught ... but still the biggies kept their heads down and only 13 x 30lb + carp were banked and a catfish of over 70lbs.

However 16th to 23rd August saw some excellent catches from most pegs on the lake. Around 150 carp out altogether with 40 + carp out over 30lbs, including 8 x 40's.

23rd to 30th August saw Keith Simpson from Rossendale in Lancs. catch the biggest carp of the week with a 48lb'er from peg 10 ... & his 15 year old son catching a 98lb cat !! Dreams are surely made of this!

Etang des Vinçons

This action packed venue, with it's recently constructed swimming pool, will soon have it's accommodation improved considerably, when the Gite that is under renovation is completed.

The cottage that lies at the end of the driveway, and about 250 yards from the main lake, will be a considerable asset to this already superb venue. Anglers will have the choice as to whether they stay in the very comfortable, but more basic, cabin by the lakes edge, or go for the real comfort of the Gite.  The Gite would be equally practical for those less serious anglers who want to have a bit of coarse angling or fishing for smaller carp on the Sapins lake, which is about 400 yards down the lane.

The main carp lake has been up to it's usual high stands and been  producing the goods ...

Mr L. Parker who was on the venue during the early part part of August hauled an impressive 45 fish during his week. The bulk of the carp on this venue are double figures with the best of his week going 23lb. Shellfish & BS boilies were the successful bait.

His comment was " Excellent arm aching fun!! "

Go to Vincons

The glorious Vincons

Domaine de la Ribière

The weather in this part of France has been particularly hot, but as it's
been settled the fish soon had to feed.

The London duo of Derek Glennister (on his third trip to this wonderful venue) and John Richards had a superb hit in August, landing a total of 62 carp during their stay, over half of which were twenties or better, the best fish going 40lb 12oz; 34lb; 33lb; 33lb; 29lb.

Their success came to a stiff rig set-up with boilies fished over particles.  PVA bags and a good amount of bait were the secret. Derek was on Premier baits, while John was using a selection of Solar gear for the successful hit.

French angler Jean-Michel Licoine also had a session he won't forget. Fishing alone from peg 14 he managed 41 fish ... again over half were 20lb plus fish. High-lights make impressive reading - 61lb 8oz Catfish; 44lb mirror; 42lb 9oz mirror; 30lb 4oz mirror.

His successful bait was boilies with tiger nuts.  The venue will be receiving a further stocking of large carp later in the year, to further enhance what has been a superb season so far for big carp, with large numbers of thirties and forties already banked.

Canada

As always the mighty St Lawrence fishes well, but August saw Kevin White guide not only his clients to the fish but also the Canadian junior team to 3rd place in the Junior world championships. Well done lads !

44lb Canadian Torpedo!

Etang du Moulin de Passais

The Moulin de Passais lake doesn't seem to have been adversely affected by the extremely hot weather. The venue provides superb accommodation and excellent fishing.

Andy Lears returning for his second trip of the year to Passais got stuck into a number of nice fish. He banked twenty carp both mirrors and commons the biggest tipping the balance at 27lb 8oz. He commented on his week...

"We had a fantastic week again here and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the thunder storm and the 90 degrees of sun!  Thanks for the BBQ on Friday we loved it.  The accommodation is still excellent and your breakfast is second to non, the lake surroundings have changed since March.  We look forward to seeing you again in September for our final 2 weeks fishing abroad this year"

The Charmley couple were again second timers to the venue and certainly had an excellent weeks carping. They landed 26 carp to over 29lb. and caught grass carp to 27lb.

He commented  "you have a lovely home and the fisherman's cottage is excellent, clean and comfortable. The lake is so peaceful, it was a pleasure being here, the fishing has been
fabulous and we hammered our pb's"

Go to Passais ...

Margot

At Margot young Perry Sargeant took a new lake record of 53.08oz from Tims swim 23rd to 30th Aug whilst enjoying a 2 day spree with 442lb of carp caught in 2 days ! during his week.

Roseau

Bumper catch at Roseau 30/8 to 6/9/03!

Andy & Paul Forrest took a week long break with their friend Steve Charlesworth. The three anglers from Leeds had an arm aching session!

They caught over 160 carp totalling 3,500lb!

Paul had 39 carp over 20lbs ... biggest 35.08 .

All three were well chuffed, all had 30's and all three broke their personal bests. Great fishing!
