Details: A wintry start for our first fishermen of the season.
Saturday 5th April saw the arrival of our first fishermen of the 2008 season, 2 of them being returning visitors from last year.
Although we had warned them to bring wet weather gear with them as we were having a lot of rain I’m sure they didn’t arrive expecting such a wintry start to their week’s fishing!! Having spent Saturday setting up & getting themselves all prepared for the week ahead the rest of the week-end was spent trying to keep out of the extreme weather conditions for the time of year, which alternated for all of Sunday between rain, hail & snow accompanied by a very cold wind.
On venturing out of their bivvies Monday morning they were greeted by a blanket of snow everywhere, needless to say no carp were tempted by their bait!!.
They consoled themselves with the fact that the weather at home was just as bad. There were sighs of relief when by Monday lunchtime the sun appeared & the snow cleared, by early evening the carp decided to co-operate & they started to catch. Lets hope it continues & that we’ve seen the last of the wintry showers & frosts.

Details: New Lake Record @ 44lb 2oz. What a start!!!!
Our first fishermen of the season Jason, Matthew & Sam arrived yesterday Saturday 7th April, full of expectations on their first Carp fishing trip to France.
Within a few hours of putting their rods out Matthew set the new lake record by landing a beautiful 44lb 2oz Mirror followed just after midnight by Sam landing a 40lb 8oz Mirror.
Sam having already caught a 34lb Mirror earlier in the day & losing another 3 fish!!! Both lads are more than happy having smashed their PB’s at Genets.

Details: Successful netting, the Roach have gone at last!!!
On Wednesday 18th October we had Mr Bigot & his team here netting the lake to remove all the unwanted small fish. We managed to net most of the roach, & also managed to net 70 of the Carp... that being just over half the stock, which was good considering we didn’t drain any water from the Lake.
Out of the 70 Carp netted there were at least 30 x 30lb+. We only weighed one & that had the scales bouncing at around 39 to 40lb... it was far too lively to weigh more accurately.
Amazingly we removed over a ton of roach, that alone will help the growth rate of the Carp.
All the Carp we saw were in excellent condition, Gareth from Angling Lines was also here & shot some video, this will be online soon.
Back to this year - the fishing has been very good with many anglers achieving their PB’s, and the majority banking at least one 30lb+, some had many 30lb+.
The best baits this year have without doubt been Quest Special Crab & Smokey Fish, which we will continue to stock on site for anglers to purchase. To achieve good runs & catches I would strongly recommend using one of these baits along with the lake pellet which the Carp are fed on throughout the year.
Something we learnt from the netting was how the lake bed seemed; with Lauren Bigot walking at the back of the net he pointed out that there were many hard spots & silt holes, his words were “it’s like the surface of the moon” So the anglers who put in the time to find the hard spots next year should be well rewarded.
All in all 2006 has been a very good year with many happy anglers vowing to return again, & with the addition of a mobile home on site we look forward to an even better 2007 season when I’m sure we will see some 40lb’ers being banked.
Regards,
Larry, Heather & Steve.

Details: Clive's Lucky Mascot.
Last week at Les Genets we had some fishing mates staying & of course doing a bit of Carp fishing.
One of them, Clive, brought with him a picture that his young Daughter had drawn for him & said it was his lucky mascot while he was away. It certainly was lucky for him as he banked 18 Carp while he was with us to 33lb 4oz giving him plenty of Carp photos to take home & show his Daughter.
She says that next time she is coming with him!!

Details: Genęts start of the season short session news.
To start the new season we invited a friend Stewart to fish with myself for 4 days. Stewart arrived Monday 20th March at midday, we picked our swims & got the rods in the water around 13.00hrs, weather was looking good at 16degrees, nice & sunny.
Stewart was the first to bank a fish at 14.10hrs, a cracking good mirror weighing in at 31 LB taken on maize, then at 15.00hrs banked another mirror of 26 LB again on maize, then at 16.44hrs bags a common of 23lb 8oz on maize again. Camera was as always at the ready & photos were duly taken.
After tea Stewart had 2 more runs but unfortunately lost both but thinking that 5 runs in 6 hours is not bad. I begin to think "what's going on here?" There I am fishing my own lake & not a beep!!
Monday night weather turns really cold, freezing north easterly wind, stays like that for next 2 days, fishing therefore shuts off. On Thursday the wind turns to south easterly & feels a bit warmer, 19.00hrs sees the start of very heavy rain & the wind increases, at 21.30hrs Stewart's rod springs into life & he banks a mirror of 19lb 8oz, we both get a good soaking, no photo, too wet. 23.10hrs Stewart in to another fish his PB common of 26lb 8oz taken on Quest bait Smokey Fish, no photo again as wind & rain wicked!!
I still have not had a take & now completely soaked I give up & wind-in my rods & tuck myself in to the dry bivvie!! At 06.30 Friday morning Stewart is into another fish a beautiful 34lb mirror taken on Quest Smokey Fish & of course a photo is taken.
This was the last fish of the session as Stewart departed at around 11am, which left me blanking on my own lake, but not to worry as all the fish which came out were in tip-top condition & put up a worthy fight.
Regards,
Larry.Les Genęts.

Details: 31lb carp on the Smoky Fish boilies
Thought I would let you know that on a typically bleak January day with the temperature at just +2 c I decided to put out a couple of rods on Sunday afternoon & try out the new baits - no pellet , just a single hook boilie . Within 2 hours I had a lovely 31lb carp on the Smoky Fish boilies.

Details: 2005 was our second season but our first with Angling Lines
2005 was our second season but our first with Angling Lines & it has proved very successful with many Fishermen leaving us having beaten their PB's.
During September Paul Newman's group of 4 landed 29 carp which included 9 of 30lb+. The biggest carp out this year was 37lb 4oz caught by Lloyd Streatfield in September. Taking into account the growth rate of the fish this year, we fully expect next years catches to be even better. The commons we put in during June have already put on a good few pounds & are real fighters.
Overall through the season the average weight of carp caught was 26-28lb. Now is the time of year for the maintenance work around the lake to start in readiness for next year, so plenty to keep us busy!! We have met some excellent people this year & thoroughly enjoyed their company.
We would like to wish all of you a very Merry Xmas & all the very best for 2006.

Details: New carp stock added to the lake this week...
Hi David,
Just to let you know about some new carp stock added to the lake this week.
On Tuesday I was invited by our fish supplier to go to the fish farm & watch a netting of one of his lakes take place. It was a long day but very interesting. It certainly proved to be very worthwhile as whilst there I hand picked 15 beautiful commons weighing from 16lb to just over 20lb to put in our lake. It was just too tempting... I couldn't say no to them!
They are now in the lake & feeding very wel,l so will no doubt soon grow into lovely specimens.
Regards,
Larry

Details: Manchester lads give the winter fishing a try!
This week at Les Genęts we have had some lads here from Manchester to give the winter fishing a try, they probably could not have picked a worse week for freezing cold temperatures, down to minus 6 some nights as the week wore on, certainly the coldest we have known it, but at least there was sunshine during the day, & amazingly the first fish out was within a couple of hours of setting up their gear. They had the following good catches: 6 Mirrors with weights of 23Lb, 24LB, 29LB, 31LB, 32LB, & 34LB also a beautiful double common. There were also quite a few runs that were missed. Unfortunately as the lake froze over & weather worsened to snow they decided to return home a day early & left Friday instead of Saturday.

Details: Restocking at Les Genęts.
Our 2004/2005 additional winter stocking has now taken place, delivered from the same highly reputable fish farm that we used last year.
Fish from this farmer are not kept in holding tanks - they are netted and transported to their new home on the same day. Memories of last year’s delivery were fresh in our minds so we kept the whole day clear because the estimated arrival time is usually quite different to actual arrival time... this proved to be the case. The first phone call said “we’ll be with you around 11am” and the last “running a bit behind, be there around 9pm” .... it was in fact 11.30pm!
So we piled on numerous layers of warm clothing and with the generator running to give lights, we went to help introduce our new arrivals. It all went very well and amid exclamations of “this is an extra lively one” and “look at the lovely markings on this one” ... it was indeed worth the wait.
We added a further 65 carp from mid 20’s to mid 30’s. This now gives us an excellent head of carp, mainly mirrors, but also some commons and some beautifully marked linears. Our new residents will benefit from our winter feeding regime of high quality Trout pellet which will ensure good growth.
So at around 1.30am, freezing cold, wet and tired we all trotted up to the house to warm our hands and relax in the knowledge of a job well done
