This beautiful lake is over 350 years old and is bordered by mature oak and traditional French poplars – an appearance that reminds one of an old English estate lake. It has many features including two islands, overhanging trees, reeds, bays, several sets of pads and a large channel between the islands and the hidden plateaus. It’s approximately 5 acres in size and is stream and spring fed ensuring good quality water throughout the year. Like many French lakes the water levels can drop in the height of summer and weed can be a nuisance… but neither stop the fish feeding as a glance at the customer feedback will show.
The banks offer easy access to the water and the swims have been designed to drain in even the wettest of conditions - no wellies required! They have been generously constructed to accommodate even the largest two man bivvies with room to spare and three of the swims have been designed as double swims allowing sociable fishing. One double and one single swim also have disabled access.
Each swim provides a number of features to fish to - the bottom end has pads and rushes; the middle section features a pair of islands; the channel between the islands is an attractive spot, as is alongside the bridge attached to the bottom island.

The full-time English bailiff lives on-site and is always willing and happy to help you in any way possible. Facilities include toilet and shower block (shower facilities upgraded to accommodate the disabled), a fully equipped kitchen with cooker, fridge and freezer. Sky TV can be viewed in the anglers dining area and there is access to a phone on-site.
There is also the possibility to hire some very basic accommodation at the lake which includes a double bed and bed settee. It’s usually used by the bailiff but can be made available if booked in advance – but it is basic. You can see pictures here. The cost is £20 per night.
Shelf-life bait is not allowed but freezers are available for your fresh bait, so you can take home any you don't use. Bait can be bought on-site at affordable prices... boilies are sold in 5kg bags, carp pellets are available in any quantity. The boilies are GB Baits Kentish range - cranberry & caviar and pineapple. Dips & pop-ups are also available.
You can also hire an Angling Technics Procat baitboat for £40 per week - please ring for details.

An excellent optional food package is available. The cost is £85 per angler per week for a full English breakfast and evening meal each day. Take a look at the customer feedback section and you’ll see that the food package comes very highly recommended
If you book the food package you will be asked to pay a 10% deposit to Angling Lines and the balance to the lake when you arrive. Please note that due to fluctuations in the exchange rate the balance you pay when you arrive may not equate exactly to the remaining 90% in £’s sterling – it may be slightly more or less due to a change in the exchange rate.

Les Montautiers was initially stocked in the winter of 1998/9 with 130 fish. Most of these were low to mid twenties with a good head of thirties and a sprinkling of forties. In the winter of 2001/2 more fish were added including approximately 50 x 20lb+ mirrors. Many of these fish are now over 25lbs - in fact the average size of the mirrors caught last season was 25.04. The lake record common is 46.04 & mirror 43.09... and there is a good head of fish over 30lbs. There are catfish between 20 and 60lb and one sturgeon of 66lb – any of these provide incredible fun in the shallow water at Les Montautiers!

During the Autumn of 2003 repair work was carried out on the lake banks which necessitated the fish being held in an adjacent stock pond. Angling Lines were there when the fish were re-introduced to the main lake...
