General comments: Thanks to Mick the bailiff he did everything possible to help all of us, top bloke. There was also a 38+ mirror caught by steve who was already on the lake. The fishing was extremely hard, high pressure and low oxygen levels and a full moon!!! Excellent fishery overall, a bit noisy in the day due to the gravel works but we got used to it. Everything and more than we expected and would have done another week no problem. We are planning another trip asap..... if you don't mind waiting for big fish this is the lake for you.

General comments: Hi Bridget,
Apologies for not contacting your earlier, but I even had a reminder in my outlook that keeps prompting me to “ tell angling lines how great they are” J…
I have used the services of Angling lines for the past 3 years and I must say that I have always had faultless services, even when it came to changing dates for a venue 3 times (due to work commitments) nothing was too much trouble!! The professional service I have received from Angling lines is a bench mark for other companies, honest and a helpful service is one way to describe how the company operates.
This year I visited “The Island Lake” WOW this place is really magical, I arrived at the lake early pulling up at the gates around 7am, I wondered as I am sure every angler does what monster lie beyond the locked gates (we all live in hope of our weeks fishing ahead). Once daylight broke I found the gates unlocked (DOH) I pulled in and parked the car……. I quickly discovered that only two anglers had fished the previous week, after I introduced myself I quickly got around to the QA session J ( as you do). Much to my heart sinking feeling I was told that the lake was not fishing too well with only two fish coming out between them both.
This year I found myself fishing on my own (my usual fishing buddy was not in toe), after exchanging pleasantries with the two guys vacating the lake I went for a quick walk around. I was soon met with another three anglers fishing the same week, much to our surprise we discover we were the only anglers booked on the lake for the coming week. We all walked round together discussing where each of us would fish, decisions were made. We all went about unpacking our kit for the 7 days fishing ahead. I had opted to fish swim 8 which gave me command of a lot of water with the other three guys, (I will introduce them now Tom, Dan John) opting for the opposite side of the lake.
All swims are very comfortable with a log cabin in each, I quickly erected my bivvie and decided to use the cabin to store the rest of my kit (we all bring way too). The lake has a milky look to it, but with the use of my Lakestar and echo sounder I found a number of promising spots to place my baits. I decided to use particle baits to entice the residents to feed, and feed they did J. The next few days were frustrating to say the least, resulting in loosing a number of good fish during the hours of darkness. The resident bailiff Mick has to be one the most helpful and genuine anglers I have ever come across, (what ever he is paid it’s not enough), getting the fish to feed didn’t seem the problem, getting them to keep hold of the hook was L after some advise from Mick a slight change of tactics took place, Shhh. Thing’s started to change for the better, on the forth night a 28lb, and a 37lb previous PB being 38 so I was starting to smile.
The fish around the lake seemed to prefer to feed at night rather than during the day, so a BBQ and a few beers with the other lads was the norm during the sunshine hours with us all retiring early evening to wait for the scream of the buzzers. We all got accustomed to the normal photo shoot around the lake about 9.30am ish with a cuppa or two along the way. The week really came to a climax when I landed a 45lb’er in the middle of the night in thick fog all alone, a very special moment indeed! Two other fish graced my landing net that night making it one night I will never forget.
So the moral of the story is… a big big thanks to Angling lines who made it all happen ( blimey I sound like someone from X factor) Thumbs up to Mick for the help and advise and to TOM, Dan and John for the help with the pic’s and the one or two BBq’s J
Regards
Mark Ridley

Also had to row out for the 44 to get it out of the weed - but well worth it !! General comments: A well run fishery, with a great stock of big quality carp. Mick the baliff was a top bloke and helped us locate the clear patches and made sure we were ok each day.. If you don't mind rowing baits out then I'd say give this lake a go to achieve a PB. I smashed mine three times...

No. of persons fishing: 2 Brief details of your catches: We had 15 fish ranging from 31lb to 49lb and lost twice as many, due to the extensive weed growth. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Plastic corn over large beds of jumbo Particals. Find the clear spots and you'll find the fish.
Were the facilities what you expected? Yes Were you happy with them? Yes
Would you recommend the venue to a friend? oh Yes

General comments: This is a real big fish water, not a runs water. Get your head around the weed and the poison chats and you'll bag up. *** USE THE BOATS **** AND FIND THE CLEAR SPOTS WE SPENT 8HOURS THE FIST DAY AND IT PAYED OFF.
This is a fantastic water but not for the novice anglers amoung us. The owners were superb and very friendly.
This was one of the best weeks fishing we have had. Thanks Bridget

No. of persons fishing: 1 Brief details of your catches: After four day with no fish but poison chat, I had a phone call from Mick Hall the Island Lake baliff and a visit from the lake owners who were more than happy to put me in the right spot. I ended the week with a 28lb,35.5lb and 36lb carp. I also lost two fish, due to hook pulls. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: I found fishing tiger nuts over a bed of hemp, mini tiger, peanuts, maples, chopped tigers and chopped Quest Rhaja Spice boilie`s did the trick. Finding the clear spots in the weed is a must.
Were the facilities what you expected? Yes Were you happy with them? Sort of.

General comments: After blanking for the first four days, Angling Lines, the owners Tommy & George(who prepared me some fresh bait and brought it to the lake.) and Mick the bailif, all made my holiday one to remember. Island Lake is a very well run venue that made me and my partner Tracy very comfortable. Sandra who visited the lake every morning and some afternoons with fresh bread, lots of local information and re-froze our ice packs, was more than helpful. I would like to thank Tommy, George, Mick, Sandra and son,the bar owners in the village and mostly Angling Lines for a fab holiday. I will be booking again for Island Lake in the near future.

General comments: Used Angling Lines previously on trip to Belgium and was satisfied, this is why I chose to use your company again. Dirty water to wash and clean teeth in. Rubbish left behind from previous fishermen. Nobody on-site to advise. Nobody to greet us when we arrived. Basically totally left in the dark. Having 5 years experience of fishing in Europe, I was totally disappointed and disgusted with this trip. I left two days early due to the above. NOTE FROM ANGLING LINES: We are obviously very sorry Mr Warner had such a bad time at Island Lake. We have discussed all the issues with the owners - here are their comments: Dirty Water.... this is definitely not the case. The site does not receive mains water - water for the shower & toilet block is pumped from professionally constructed fresh water bore holes. This water can have a cloudy appearance but is definitely not dirty or dangerous. Rubbish left behind from previous anglers - this is not acceptable but the owners do point out that there are waste bins provided and they do expect anglers to use them. However, they do accept that this situation is not acceptable. The normal bailif, Mick, was not on-site this week but his deputy was present.

Stephen Kinsellla Venue: Island Date of holiday: 15-07-2006 to 22-07-2006
No. of persons fishing: 2 Brief details of your catches: Only caught 2 carp myself 32lb and 34lb. My mate had a 25lb and there was another angler who got a 43lb, but am happy as it was red hot in the 40's in the day and not any cooler at night... so did consider in the circumstances we was lucky to get those. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: I took soft freezer baits, the bailiff sorted me out some alternatives and stored my freezer stuff for me till we left, thought this was good of them so I didn't lose out on my bait at all. Tigers worked the best.
Were the facilities what you expected? yes, loos & showers clean and water on a generator hot on demand. Due to the heat we showered 5 times a day sometimes! Water cloudy but this is usual in France... these were the best facilities so far in France I've come accross on a lake. Were you happy with them? yes, but mattresses in cabins were dirty through use and anglers not taking off boots etc... great for storing stuff though!
Would you recommend the venue to a friend? yes, but use tigers when poisson chats are bad! :-) Would happily come back to this lake at a different time of year and hope for cooler weather!
Would you recommend our services to a friend? yes., been with you before.
General comments: We would both go again but hopefully with cooler weather. This lake smacks of quality fish... thought we did well considering!

No. of persons fishing: 2 Brief details of your catches: 20lb , 24lb, 33lb, 39.10oz, 43.lb, Will had 28lb,33lb,32lb,33lb common,38lb & 44.08oz What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Struggled to start. Fished deeper water, 14ft. Used PVA bags with a mix over the top. Tigers and maize stayed on the hook longest. Had to work at the fishing but the hard work paid off, the fish caught speak for themselves
Were the facilities what you expected? Yes Were you happy with them? Yes
Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Yes, only to good anglers though!
Would you recommend our services to a friend? Yes (but struggled with the directions)
General comments: first 3 days had only 1 carp, The gravel bars seemed a waste of time as constantly troubled by poisson chats. So spent hours in the boat to find deeper spots. This paid off we eventually fished sometimes 14ft of water but worked and got the results. Unfortunately for us the bailiff was not there himself this week... this could have saved us some time in knowing how to tackle it. All in all still the best trip I have had... 2 x pb in one day can't be bad :-) Only wish we had longer there once we had sorted the tactics out. My top tips were...Don't be afraid to fish deep water. Spend time to find the spots first, take mozzie spray, cut offs were quite common.. take spare line, Work hard to reap the rewards.

General comments: On the morning of our departure there were gale force winds and rain across most of Britain and France.
We set off full of expectation despite the conditions.
When we arrived there was a tree blocking the access road which we had to drag out of the way and once we had done this and entered the venue we discovered that several large trees had fallen around one end of the venue. With the wind still very strong we could only safely fish where the wind would blow any falling trees away from us.
It was the case that as the high winds had been prominent on the lake for a few days prior to our visit, the water clarity was poor, the notion therefore of placing baits in clear spots in the weed from boats was impossible and we had to revert to leading around and using marker floats. Mick the bailiff was a top man and realising that conditions were far from ideal tried his hardest using his boat and outboard to place baits for those who struggled. We ended the week with conditions still poor and unfortunately out of the eight, four did not catch, but this was clearly due to the conditions and not the quality of the fishery. The venue was fabulous, as always, and we would like to visit again when conditions are better. The owners and bailiff were great and as usual we had a great time. It is sometimes good to remember that carp fishing holidays are, after all, not all about catching fish! We had a great laugh and chilled in a lovely rural French setting.
Angling Lines has always gone to great pains to cater for our exact requirements and no one can predict bad weather or fishing conditions which are not your or the venues fault.
We will - as we have for the past five years - be booking with Angling Lines next year.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: For me it was finding clear patches via the boat and fishing a 14mm Quest Raja spice low pop-up with 20'ish boilies and a few small handfulls of hemp/tares as I was fishing for one fish at a time. Odd fish also came out casting to showing fish.
Were the facilities what you expected? Excellent facilities, far better than most lakes. Were you happy with them? Absolutely
Would you recommend the venue to a friend? 100%
Would you recommend our services to a friend? Always!
General comments: A nice water with an excellent stocking of carp. As you row across the gin clear water you will constantly see good size carp cruising under the boat which leaves you open mouthed as to what is actually in the Island lake. The water will just about take 10 anglers but I feel 8 is the maximum (if you split up and not double up in the swims). Whilst we were there we met Tommy and Gloria the lake owners who are absolutely "Pukka" (well they are Eastenders after all). Our thanks go to Sandra, our little diamond, who everyday came to each swim and delivered our morning French bread, and to Mick Hall (who we only met on our last full day) who gave good advice to some of the lads who were struggling.
