What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Far bank fish caught on Quest Liver B8 and pineapple. Poisson chat caught on the pineapple crush.

Were the facilities what you expected? Worse

Were you happy with them? No. Pegs still under water, had to buy some wellies!

General comments: Fishing was quiet, all the pegs still under water. As soon as dark came so did the rats. Mehdi, nice guy!

Brief details of your catches: Me: Mirrors of 34.8, 34.0, 33.0, 30.8, 30, 29.8, 28,8, 27.8, 27.0, 26.0, and 17.0lb. Paul: Common 42.0, Mirrors of 28.0 and 26.0 and Grass carp of 25lb. Bruce: Common 25lb.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Plastic corn over hemp and sweetcorn or just sweetcorn, fished right under far bank trees. Spend time on the far bank quietly watching where the fish visit.

Were the facilities what you expected? Yes... Plenty of hot water, power for chargers and freezer space.

General comments: Quite hard for a holiday venue. Massive amount of poison chats any baited area becomes a black wriggling mass of them. Impossible to fish pelletts or any boilie including Mehdis pineapple. Swims still under water & have to get in the lake to fish properly.

General comments: Mehdi is a very friendly guy and the facilities are well thought out but the swims were really flooded and although you could set up above the swims they were all extremely muddy. He could have put chippings down to improve the swims as he had recently cut down some trees! Some minor issues spoil an otherwise lovely lake. *****NOTE FROM ANGLING LINES***** This year has seen an exceptionally wet start to the season in France - water levels are very high on many lakes, higher than ever before on many. This could not have been anticipated but putting anything down in the swims after they are waterlogged is impossible - it would cause significant damage to the banks with large machinery. Unfortunately wet conditions are an unavoidable risk of going to France early season & this year has been very wet.

Brief details of your catches: 10 fish caught all week, biggest 38.5lb mirror, further mirrors of 33lb and 30.5lb. 2 small double figure grass carp.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Boated Baits to far margins, tried finding clear spots in open water and baiting it up during the week, but this surprisingly producing nothing. Fish appeared to be at end of lake where the chalet is.

General comments: We were the first paying anglers to fish Old Oaks in April a couple of years ago and are aware of the results that are possible on Old Oaks. We regard 10 fish between 4 anglers as pretty poor for Old Oaks but some weeks they just don't play ball! The conditions were pretty poor and it appears there has been alot of rain this spring. The water level was approx a foot or more higher than the last time. I've noted the comments from AL regarding fishing during spring and don't agree. Whilst we all expect poor weather this time of year, every swim was under water. When we FIRST went, the swims that were built into the lake were half submerged. They haven't changed and with more rain this spring they are now completely flooded. I would suggest the swims were built during lower water levels that do not take into account spring levels. To fish this lake in spring you either need to accept that the swims will be completely or at least partially flooded - or Mehdi needs to raise their levels. That said Mehdi is a superb host and passionate carp angler and we wish him all the best!

General comments: Mehdi is very helpfull with anything asked. Weather was against us , water was cold but still caught. The only down part of the trip was going home !

General comments: Lake swims were flooded and previous warning would have been nice as this made for uncomfortable fishing... But the venue is still producing some fine catches and can highly recommend it, it helps to have such a good owner in Mehdi...
