LATEST NEWS...

This lake is part of a complex of 6 lakes situated in the Champagne region, not far from the famous Lac du Der Chantecoq. The mileage from Calais is 266 miles - nearly all on motorways. The waters hold some of the most beautiful carp in France and offer a choice of carp fishing from fast & furious buzzer action through to serious specimen hunting. Pascale Briallart, the owner/manager, will be a regular visitor as she tours the site on a regular basis and is always willing to help out. The venue is fairly isolated and rural but shops and a supermarket can be found in Vitry-le-Françoise about 4 miles away. There are gravel workings taking place in the area & this can cause some noise - but it doesn't bother the carp!

Graviere du Saule has 5 swims and is rented on an exclusive basis for a group of 5 anglers maximum.

Have the lake to yourself ... enjoy fishing off the peninsula with your friends. The lake's horseshoe shape ensures a sociable atmosphere with maximum capture chances for all anglers. Le Saule has a high stock of big fish from 25 to 52lbs with back up fish from 17 to 25lbs giving some action during the wait for the biggies!

Access is easy with only a 15 yard walk from the car to all swims.

Further to the above, the owner has his farm very close by (2 minutes by car) where further facilities have been made available to the visiting anglers. This includes a communal kitchen area equipped with an electric double cooker, a fridge and a double sink.  A large eating area is available with a table and two bench seats.  There are additional toilet and showers facilities and a plentiful free supply of hot water.

There is a porta-cabin containing an English style toilet and shower on the complex. A chalet with BBQ and picnic table is situated on the peninsula and is available for your exclusive use.

English is spoken and on site bait delivery is possible - ask for details.

We are convinced that this water holds some of the most beautiful carp in France. Stocked twelve years ago, the numbers of fish in this water is substantial. Linears, heavily-scaled, fully-scaled mirrors, commons and rare leathers.  While the lake does contain fish to over 45 pounds the bulk of the stock is made up of doubles and twenties, but we know of 30+ fish over 30 pounds in weight and 8 forties.  The grass carp go to 30lb+. We would describe this lake as moderately difficult fishing with 15+ fish per week being fairly standard.

During December 2003 additional carp were stocked into saule -

Saule is a gravel pit with features such as gravel bars, overhanging tree branches and the odd patch of weed. No long range tackle is required as most of the fishing is done less than 50 yards away from the bank.

Saules is a not an easy chuck and catch water, it needs to be fished ! ...careful attention by finding and using the features will go along way to ensuring that your session is productive.

Bait application is the key factor, apply on a little and often basis and you can be sure not to kill the swim. Generally little may be considered as 20-30 boilies per rod and no more than a pound of trout pellets. This amount may be renewed at every take or every 12 hours if nothing occurs.

Do not expect blinding takes each time, sometimes a slight drop back or tightening of the line is sufficient to indicate a positive take so please ensure that your rod set up is as sensitive as possible.

Although generally speaking the fish are most active at night we have found that the biggest fish get caught during the day, so as to minimise disturbance on the water it is very useful for you to organise the group so as to refresh the baits at the same time. This saves continuous noise on the water during the day and increases you chances of a take.

Based on 5 anglers using the lake exclusively, including ferry crossing in a minibus - from £219 per person.
